Championship Saturday has arrived at the WVSSAC Girls Basketball State Tournament, and four state titles are set to be decided at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
The day begins with the Class A State Championship as defending champion Gilmer County faces St. Marys in a matchup of Little Kanawha Conference rivals. Gilmer County advanced to the final with a 52–43 semifinal victory over Ritchie County, powered by Ava Dobbins and Kenley Hartshorn, who combined for 32 points. St. Marys earned its championship berth after a thrilling 52–50 win over Tug Valley, led by Brynlee Bullock’s 27 points and 11 rebounds. The Blue Devils are appearing in the state final for the first time since 2013.
At 12:30 PM, the Class AA Championship features No. 1 James Monroe vs. No. 2 Williamstown. The Mavericks reached the title game after victories over Lincoln and Wyoming East, allowing just 63 total points in those two games. First-year head coach Sherri Helvey, a former state champion player at James Monroe, now looks to guide the Mavericks to a title from the sideline. Williamstown enters the championship after an impressive defensive effort in the semifinals, holding Wheeling Central Catholic to just six points in the second half.
The evening session begins with the Class AAA Championship at 5:00 PM, as Greenbrier East faces East Fairmont. The Spartans enter the final seeking their second perfect season in school history after wins over Hampshire and Keyser. East Fairmont, the No. 7 seed, has pulled off back-to-back upsets, defeating Spring Valley in the quarterfinals and Nitro in the semifinals to reach the title game.
The night concludes with the Class AAAA Championship at 7:30 PM, featuring a Parkersburg city rivalry as Parkersburg South takes on Parkersburg. The Patriots hold a 2–0 advantage in the season series, including a 48–47 win on January 9 and a 60–54 victory on January 22. Parkersburg South advanced with wins over Martinsburg and top-seeded George Washington, while Parkersburg reached the final after defeating University in overtime and Morgantown in the semifinal round.
All four championship games will determine the 2026 WVSSAC Girls Basketball State Champions.
