Wheeling Central collects 22 hits in 16-5 win at Charleston Catholic

No. 2 Wheeling Central Catholic made a major statement in Class AA baseball, pounding out 22 hits in a dominant 16-5 road win over No. 1 Charleston Catholic in a showdown of the top two teams in the MetroNews rankings.
The Maroon Knights exploded for six runs in the third inning and six more in the seventh, collecting 16 combined hits in those two frames to overwhelm the Irish.
Jake Brown, Koy Lipinski, and Clay Petry all launched home runs for Central, while Brown, Zayne Rosnick, Brady Ernest, and Petry each recorded three-hit games. Rosnick and Ernest also drove in three runs apiece.
Mercyhurst signee Steven Brodegard earned the win on the mound, allowing just two runs over six innings while striking out seven for the defending state champions.
Charleston Catholic’s Xander Allara, Connor Jarvis, and Danny Linton each had two hits in the loss.
