Lehosit's arm, Masoner grand slam lead UHS to OVAC title, 5-1 over John Marshall
Sports
History was made in Wheeling as University captured its first-ever OVAC 5A Tournament championship with a 5-1 win over John Marshall.
The turning point came in the third inning. Trailing 1-0, University loaded the bases with two outs before Olivia Masoner delivered in a massive moment — crushing a grand slam to straightaway centerfield to give the Hawks the lead for good.
Sophia Lehosit took control from there in the circle, striking out 12 and allowing just two hits. After surrendering an early run, she dominated, retiring 18 of the next 20 batters she faced.
University added an insurance run in the fourth, while Maddie Campbell led the offense with three hits.
With the win, the Hawks secure a milestone victory and build momentum heading into regional play.
