Top-ranked Class AAA John Marshall delivered one of its biggest wins of the season, edging Class AAAA No. 2 Morgantown, 2-1.
With the game tied in the sixth inning, seniors Kaylee White and Masyn Inclan sparked the decisive rally. Inclan ripped a double that brought White home from first, giving the Monarchs a lead they would not give up.
In the circle, Lily Dijkstra was outstanding, tossing a complete game while allowing just four hits and striking out three. She closed strong, retiring six of the final seven batters to secure the win.
John Marshall struck first in the second inning on an RBI single from Emma King, while Morgantown answered in the fourth with a run-scoring double from Grace Robinson.
Despite a strong performance from Morgantown pitcher Madison Wisman, who struck out 11 batters, the Monarchs held on for their fifth straight victory.
