Defending champions are back on top after Day 1 of the WVSSAC Girls State Track & Field Championships in Charleston.
Morgantown leads Class AAAA entering Saturday after Harlyn Nelson captured the pole vault title to help the Mohigans build a four-point advantage. Huntington sits close behind after winning the shuttle hurdle relay.
In Class AAA, Bridgeport holds the top spot after victories from Haydn Henderson in the long jump and Becky Pepper-Jackson in the shot put with a personal-best throw.
Williamstown opened up the largest lead of any classification in Class AA. The Yellowjackets won the 4×800 relay and Reagan Corbett added a discus title as the defending champions built an 18-point advantage.
St. Marys leads Class A after a strong opening day highlighted by a 1-2 finish in the pole vault led by Avry Bennett.
The 2026 WVSSAC State Track & Field Championships continue Saturday with team titles and individual championships on the line across all four classifications.
