In a decisive 81-59 victory, the West Virginia Mountaineers, now 5-0 on the season, were led by the high-scoring combination of guard Honor Huff and freshman forward DJ Thomas, who proved too much for Lafayette. Huff, specializing from the perimeter, ignited the team early, hitting a three-pointer on the first possession and finishing with 24 points on a remarkable eight three-pointers, tying the program's second-highest single-game mark. Freshman Thomas complemented the perimeter attack by dominating near the basket, leading all scorers with 25 points—the highest total by a WVU freshman since 2019. Head coach Ross Hodge noted that the production came largely from successfully countering Lafayette's zone defense by having Thomas get to his spots inside while Huff capitalized on open looks, particularly in the first half where they combined for 26 points. Despite Lafayette cutting the lead to 12 late in the game, WVU closed with a 12-2 run, with Thomas and Amir Jenkins contributing eight points, securing the unbeaten home stand. The win also highlighted WVU's defensive pressure, forcing Lafayette into 19 turnovers and continuing a streak of not allowing an opponent to record more assists than turnovers this season.
