The Nitro Wildcats pulled off a stunning upset, defeating the previously undefeated Fairmont Senior Polar Bears 51-45 to win the Class AAA state championship. Nitro displayed incredible resilience after losing star senior Baylee Goins to a torn ACL in the second quarter. Despite trailing at halftime, the Wildcats rallied, fueled by strong performances from Taylor Maddox, Danielle Ward, and Lena Elkins. Maddox led all scorers with 17 points, while Elkins was perfect from the field. The Wildcats' defense and clutch plays in the fourth quarter secured their victory, marking their first state title. Fairmont Senior struggled with shooting and turnovers, ultimately unable to overcome Nitro's determination.
