The Parkersburg Big Reds captured their first Class AAA girls basketball state championship since 1996, narrowly defeating the top-seeded Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers 49-47 in a thrilling contest. Despite a staggering 34 turnovers, Parkersburg's superior shooting and rebounding proved decisive. Shaylee Kirby's clutch free throws with just eight seconds remaining secured the victory, capping off a tense final minute that saw Buckhannon-Upshur mount a furious comeback. Madi Mace led the Big Reds with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, while Kirby and Aleea Crites also contributed significantly. Buckhannon-Upshur's Hanna McClung and Lauren Bennett combined for 40 of their team's 47 points, but ultimately fell short. The all-tournament team recognized the outstanding performances of Mace, Kirby, McClung, and Bennett, as well as players from Parkersburg South, George Washington, and Wheeling Park.
