On Tuesday, March 18, 2026, Winfield delivered a complete performance in a 46-33 win over Ripley in a Class AAA quarterfinal at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
In one of the most emotional moments of the tournament, Ty Laughery made his return to the court after battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma, providing a major boost to the Generals.
The game remained tight early, with neither team leading by more than three points in the first quarter. Winfield gained momentum in the second behind a 9-0 run, led by Owen Taylor and Owen Jones, to build a double-digit lead.
Ripley responded with a run of its own behind Kyler Doss and Blake Justice, trimming the deficit to just two points at halftime.
In the second half, Winfield took control. Owen Taylor came off the bench to lead all scorers with 20 points, knocking down four three-pointers and delivering key plays down the stretch. The Generals’ defense locked in, holding Ripley to just 14 points in the second half.
Brody Ilderton and Myton Oglesby added timely contributions as Winfield steadily pulled away in the fourth quarter.
With the victory, Winfield advances to the Class AAA semifinals, where they will face Chapmanville.
