The Maroon Knights captured the Class AA State Championship, defeating Wyoming East 55-39 to secure back-to-back titles and cap an undefeated 23-0 campaign.
The game opened with early momentum swings, as Eli Sancomb helped Wheeling Central jump out to a lead before Wyoming East answered behind Talan Muscari and Braedy Johnston. The Warriors briefly took control in the first half, but Central responded late in the second quarter to carry a narrow 24-23 lead into halftime.
From there, the Maroon Knights took over.
A decisive third-quarter run sparked by Nico Kusic and fueled by Sancomb’s all-around performance created separation. Max Olejasz added key scoring, while Central’s defense held Wyoming East in check down the stretch.
Sancomb led the way with 21 points, while Luke Sancomb and Olejasz provided critical support as the Knights steadily pulled away in the second half.
Wyoming East was led by Keegan Davidson, who finished with a team-high 16 points, but the Warriors were unable to close the gap late.
With the win, Wheeling Central Catholic not only defends its title, but completes a flawless season in dominant fashion.
