The Tug Valley Panthers delivered a dominant defensive performance to defeat Greater Beckley Christian 60–13 in the WVSSAC Class A Girls Basketball State Tournament Quarterfinals at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
Last year’s Class A state runner-up, Tug Valley wasted no time setting the tone. The Panthers opened the game with a 16–0 run, holding Greater Beckley Christian scoreless through the entire first quarter while building a 10–0 lead after the opening period. Tug Valley’s relentless defense continued in the second quarter, limiting the Crusaders to just one field goal in the first half as the Panthers carried a 24–3 advantage into halftime.
Bailee Hall anchored the effort with a dominant performance inside, finishing with 10 points and an incredible 24 rebounds. Katie Hall and Kylie DeBoard each added 10 points, while Haven Deskins led all scorers with 13 points for the Panthers.
Greater Beckley Christian broke through midway through the second quarter when Destyn Farrish knocked down a three-pointer, but Tug Valley’s defensive pressure and balanced offense continued to control the game throughout the second half. Freshman Gracie Hynd contributed eight points in her first state tournament appearance, helping the Panthers extend their lead and secure the victory.
With the win, Tug Valley advances to the Class A semifinals, where the Panthers will face St. Marys as the quest for the WVSSAC Girls Basketball State Championship continues in Charleston.
