Robert Shields collects 1,000th career win as Bridgeport defeats RCB, 15-5
Sports
A historic milestone and a dominant performance highlighted Bridgeport’s 15-5 win over Robert C. Byrd, as longtime head coach Robert Shields secured his 1,000th career victory.
In his 38th season, Shields becomes just the second coach in West Virginia history to reach the milestone, joining Jefferson’s John Lowery. While the achievement is significant, Shields made it clear his focus remains on competing for another state championship in June.
Bridgeport broke the game open with a 10-run third inning and never looked back. Blake Butcher delivered a complete game on the mound, striking out 12 while allowing five hits.
The Indians (25-4) continue their strong stretch, winning 13 of their last 14 games as they gear up for postseason play.
