In a hard-fought Class AA Region II co-final, the Philip Barbour Colts secured a 50-40 victory over the Petersburg Vikings, punching their ticket to the state tournament for the fifth straight year. Despite a strong push from Petersburg that narrowed the Colts' lead to just one point in the third quarter, Philip Barbour responded with a decisive 13-0 run to reclaim control. Led by junior center Izzy Knotts, who scored a game-high 22 points, the Colts maintained their composure and never trailed throughout the contest. Head coach Rick Mouser attributed the win to his team’s hustle and preparation, noting that they were ready for the Vikings' "scrappy" play after a close regular-season encounter.
While Miley Tingler paced Petersburg with 18 points, the Vikings (15-7) couldn't overcome the early momentum built by Philip Barbour's 17-7 first-quarter lead. Coach Mouser praised his multi-sport athletes for their work ethic and continuous improvement throughout the season. Now sitting at 16-8, the No. 7 seeded Colts are set to face No. 2 Williamstown in the state quarterfinals on March 11 at 7:15 p.m.
