Parkersburg defeated rival Parkersburg South to capture the WVSSAC Class AAAA Girls Basketball State Championship at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
The Big Reds came out firing early as Frances Guice knocked down a pair of three-pointers in transition to set the tone offensively. Parkersburg continued to find success from beyond the arc as Lauren Flanagan added multiple triples to keep the Big Reds in front.
Parkersburg South battled back behind clutch baskets from Emilee Owens and Quinn Bolyard, who helped the Patriots grab the lead during a back-and-forth stretch in the second half.
Flanagan continued her hot shooting from deep, knocking down another three to swing momentum back to Parkersburg. Moments later, Faithlyn Butcher buried a clutch three-pointer to give the Big Reds the lead late in the fourth quarter.
Down the stretch, Parkersburg executed key possessions as Lucie Cline knocked down a mid-range jumper and Guice finished inside to help seal the victory.
Despite a late push from Lindsey Logston and the Patriots, the Big Reds held on to secure the title.
With the win, Parkersburg claims its ninth girls basketball state championship in program history, returning the trophy to the Big Reds.
