The Parkersburg South Patriots powered past Martinsburg 59-46 to secure a spot in the WVSSAC Class AAAA Girls Basketball State Tournament Semifinals at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
Parkersburg South set the tone early when Lindsey Logston knocked down a three-pointer to spark a 6-0 start for the Patriots. Martinsburg responded late in the first quarter as Ziona Lomax finished through contact, and Kylie Prout added a basket to help the Bulldogs close the period on a 10-4 run, giving Martinsburg a 14-13 lead after one.
The Patriots quickly regained momentum in the second quarter. Logston led the charge with 17 first-half points, including a steal and transition finish that sparked an 11-0 Parkersburg South run. Quinn Bolyard added key baskets, while Olivia Conaway buried a three-pointer during a late surge that pushed the Patriots’ lead to 39-24 at halftime.
Martinsburg battled back in the third quarter. Tiana Sanabria scored on a put-back, and Avianna King converted a three-point play as the Bulldogs used a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 41-37.
Parkersburg South responded before the quarter ended when Logston attacked the basket for two more points, helping the Patriots maintain a 43-37 lead entering the fourth.
The Patriots controlled the final period. Emily Owens knocked down a three-pointer early in the fourth, and Logston continued her dominant performance, finishing with a game-high 25 points.
Martinsburg trimmed the deficit to six late behind another basket from King, but Parkersburg South closed strong to secure the 59-46 victory.
With the win, Parkersburg South advances to the WVSSAC Class AAAA Semifinals, where the Patriots will face MSAC rival George Washington.
