Cabell Midland completed an incredible four-day tournament run by winning its fourth straight elimination game, defeating St. Albans 8-3 to claim the Mountain State Athletic Conference Tournament Championship at GoMart Ballpark.
The Knights battled through wins over South Charleston and Capital just to qualify for the tournament field, then stunned top-seeded Hurricane in the semifinal before finishing the job against the Red Dragons in the title game.
Cabell Midland jumped out fast again, building a 5-0 lead through the first two innings and never looking back. Senior Cade Johnson was outstanding on the mound, striking out 11 batters and finishing one out shy of a complete game.
Seth Hinkle, Braylon Wing, and Brady Ballou each delivered two-run base hits, combining to drive in six of Midland’s eight runs. Hinkle, Wing, Eli McGinnis, and Cruz Hunt all posted multi-hit performances.
St. Albans was led by Gavin Comer, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Brayden Smith scored twice.
