Sherman survived a late push from Scott to earn a 16-14 victory in a hard-fought Boone County rivalry matchup.
The Tide struck first after Eli Pauley connected with Parkar Platt on a shovel pass that helped move Sherman deep into Scott territory. Levi Sprouse finished the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run, and the two-point conversion gave Sherman an 8-0 lead.
Scott’s defense helped keep the game close when Trent Baldwin intercepted Pauley in the second quarter. The Skyhawks eventually capitalized as Cooper Grant scored from 2 yards out to cut Sherman’s lead to 8-7.
But the Tide answered just before halftime.
A long kickoff return from Chase Southern gave Sherman excellent field position, and Pauley extended the play before finding Sprouse for a 6-yard touchdown. Another successful two-point conversion sent Sherman into halftime with a 16-7 advantage.
Scott responded quickly after the break when Luke Williamson broke loose down the sideline for a touchdown, trimming the deficit to 16-14.
The Skyhawks later appeared poised to take the lead after Bentley Halley intercepted Pauley and Scott drove inside the Sherman 10. But a fumble was recovered by Eli Vereen, preserving the Tide’s advantage.
Scott received one final opportunity late in the fourth quarter, but on fourth-and-long, Pauley and Sprouse combined for the game-clinching sack of Tanner Simmons.
Sherman holds on for the 16-14 victory, improving to 7-2 on the season.
