Herbert Hoover erased an early two-touchdown deficit and remained unbeaten with a 31-21 victory over defending Class AAA champion Princeton in a matchup of two of the classification’s top contenders.
Princeton jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead behind a 9-yard touchdown run from R.J. Coatney and a 42-yard touchdown pass from Jake Belcher to Alex Cox.
From there, Herbert Hoover took control.
The Huskies scored 24 unanswered points in the second quarter, led by David Robinson Jr., who broke free for touchdown runs of 36 and 13 yards. Peyton Grigsby added a 41-yard rushing touchdown before Jackson Chandler connected on a 25-yard field goal as time expired to give Hoover a 24-14 halftime lead.
Robinson added an 11-yard touchdown in the third quarter and finished with 233 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The Army commit helped power a Herbert Hoover rushing attack that controlled the middle portion of the game.
Princeton pulled within 10 points late on a 3-yard touchdown run from Aaron Hood, but Hoover’s defense allowed just seven points over the final three quarters to close out the victory.
The win moves top-ranked Herbert Hoover to 8-0, keeping the Huskies as the only unbeaten team in Class AAA.
