Unbeaten Greenbrier East punched its ticket to the WVSSAC Class AAA state championship game with a convincing semifinal win over Keyser at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
The Spartans grabbed momentum early as Kayla Waller knocked down a three-pointer to spark a strong opening quarter. Greenbrier East led 12-5 after the first period and continued to build its advantage in the second behind Ava Workman, who scored 11 first-half points.
Keyser stayed within striking distance thanks to key baskets from Kia Kesner and Bibi Felton, but the Spartans delivered a huge momentum swing just before halftime when Kedary Stewart buried a deep three at the buzzer, sending East into the locker room with a 29-18 lead.
Greenbrier East pulled away in the second half behind its perimeter shooting. Stewart caught fire from beyond the arc and finished with a game-high 20 points, while Hannah Fuller added key buckets during a decisive third-quarter run.
The Spartans’ three-point attack proved too much for the Golden Tornado as Greenbrier East extended its lead to as many as 18 points before closing out a 52-37 victory.
With the win, Greenbrier East advances to the Class AAA state championship game, where the Spartans will face the winner of Nitro vs. East Fairmont on Championship Saturday.
