Defending Class A state champion Gilmer County delivered a dominant performance in the WVSSAC Girls Basketball State Tournament Quarterfinals, defeating Webster County 67-19 to advance to the semifinals.
The Titans set the tone early behind strong transition play and hot perimeter shooting. Blair Dobbins opened the scoring with a transition basket before Lena Frymier caught fire from deep, knocking down multiple three-pointers to spark a big first-half run. Gilmer County closed the first quarter with a commanding 24-9 lead and never looked back.
The Titans’ defense and ball movement overwhelmed Webster County throughout the second quarter. Erin Stoddard fueled a 10-0 run with nine straight points, while Frymier continued her scorching shooting performance, finishing the night with six three-pointers and 18 points.
Gilmer County dominated the glass as well, with Kenley Hartshorn recording a double-double (13 points, 14 rebounds) to help control the pace and extend the Titans’ lead to 41-12 at halftime.
In the second half, Gilmer’s balanced offense continued to roll. Laura Brannon sparked transition opportunities, while Ava Dobbins converted inside as the Titans stretched the lead beyond 30 points. Webster County was led by Maddie Williams, who scored 12 points for the Highlanders.
Gilmer County cruised the rest of the way to a 67-19 victory and now advances to the Class A state semifinals, where the Titans will face the winner of Tucker County vs. Ritchie County.
