Wheeling Central Catholic is heading back to the Class AA state championship after an 86-53 win over Wayne in the semifinals on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Eli Sancomb delivered a dominant performance, finishing with 41 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds while controlling the game from start to finish.
The Maroon Knights built an early lead behind Sancomb and extended it in the second quarter as Luke Sancomb knocked down a three and Max Olejasz added 19 points, including a dunk and a three-pointer. Nahiem Shepherd also contributed during a strong offensive stretch.
Wayne stayed competitive early behind Colton Heck, who led the Pioneers with 29 points, while Colton Preece added key buckets in the first half.
However, Wheeling Central’s depth and efficiency proved too much, as the Maroon Knights pulled away in the second half with a decisive run.
With the win, Wheeling Central Catholic advances to the Class AA state championship game, where they will face Wyoming East.
