Clay County enters 2026 looking to build on one of the program's most successful seasons in decades.

The Panthers finished with eight wins in 2025 and closed the season with a five-game winning streak that included a 44-12 victory over rival Roane County in the opening round of the playoffs. It marked Clay County's first postseason victory since 2001.

Head coach Jason Nichols now turns to an experienced group of playmakers as the Panthers look to take another step forward.

Second team All-State quarterback Cooper Collins returns after throwing for 2,632 yards and 28 touchdowns as a sophomore. Now entering his second season as the starter, Collins has developed into one of the leaders of the Clay County offense.

Senior Brody Scarbro also returns after leading the Panthers with 877 rushing yards, while Blake Coleman and Nick Williams give Clay additional options out of the backfield.

The Panthers will continue to feature an aggressive passing attack with Joel Elliott returning after catching 11 touchdown passes as a sophomore. Kohan Ramsey, Collin Elliott and several other receivers will also compete for significant roles.

The biggest question comes along the offensive line, where Clay must replace four starters. Nichols believes an offseason commitment in the weight room has prepared the next group to step in.
