Through Day 1 of the WVSSAC State Track Championships, the competition is tight across all classes. In Class AAA, Hurricane leads with 29 points thanks to Ty Steorts' 3200m win and a shuttle hurdle relay victory, closely followed by University (28 points) and Spring Mills, which saw Lokkhae Uth-Smith win the high jump. Other AAA champions included Cabell Midland in the 4x800m relay and Noah Kintz of Bridgeport in the pole vault. In Class AA, Point Pleasant is the frontrunner with 30 points, largely due to Caden Hill's double wins in shot put and discus, as well as a shuttle hurdle relay win. Williamstown sits in second with 28 points, excelling in throwing events, while Frankfort is third with 20 points, bolstered by Ryan Hughes' 3200m victory, and the Elkins Tigers won the 4x800m run. Finally, in the small school Class A division, Magnolia holds a significant lead with 45 points after victories in the 4x800m relay and discus (Matthew Anderson). Trinity is second with 26 points, with Chase Livengood winning the long jump, and Doddridge County is third with 24 points. Other Class A highlights included Greenbrier West setting a state record in the shuttle hurdle relay, Ritchie County's Dylan Malolepszy winning the high jump, and Tyler Consolidated's Amos Kimble taking the 3200m title.
