Semifinal Friday has arrived at the WVSSAC Girls Basketball State Tournament inside the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center, with championship game berths on the line across three classifications.
The day begins with a Class AA semifinal showdown between regional rivals Williamstown and Wheeling Central Catholic. Williamstown advanced after surviving Philip Barbour 53-51, led by Gracie Montgomery’s 17 points. Wheeling Central Catholic cruised past Wayne 71-35, powered by Haley Sevrance’s 20-point performance.
Next up is the first Class AAA semifinal, where top-seeded and unbeaten Greenbrier East faces Keyser. The Spartans rolled past Hampshire 74-36 in the quarterfinals behind Hannah Fuller’s 16 points and 14 rebounds. Keyser earned its first state tournament victory in more than a decade by defeating John Marshall 47-40, with Jillian Alt and Bibi Felton combining for 35 points.
In the second Class AA semifinal, Wyoming East meets James Monroe in another regional rivalry. James Monroe advanced with a dominant 68-33 win over Lincoln, fueled by Lydia and Mya Dunlap, who combined for 39 points and 20 rebounds. Wyoming East reached the semifinals after defeating Charleston Catholic 63-53, led by Kyndall Lusk’s 18 points.
The evening session opens with a Class AAAA semifinal matchup between George Washington and Parkersburg South, a rematch of MSAC rivals. The Patriots of GW defeated Washington 65-52 in the quarterfinals behind Rayana Breckenridge and Jauhi’a Pryor, who combined for 33 points. Parkersburg South advanced with a 59-46 win over Martinsburg, led by freshman Lindsey Logston’s 25 points.
In the second Class AAA semifinal, Nitro faces East Fairmont. Nitro knocked off Princeton 48-40, highlighted by Karson Jones’ double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. East Fairmont earned a dramatic win over Spring Valley 54-52, paced by Kailee Haymond’s 15 points.
The night concludes with a Class AAAA semifinal between Morgantown and Parkersburg, the rubber match of their season series. Morgantown advanced with a 56-42 victory over Cabell Midland, while Parkersburg survived an overtime thriller against University 71-70. Kennedy Porter delivered a dominant performance with 24 points and 24 rebounds to lead the Big Reds.
