Frostburg State outlasted West Virginia State 93–85 in a high-scoring battle Wednesday at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
The Bobcats set the tone early with efficient offense, shooting better than 54 percent in the first half while building a 46–36 advantage at the break. Frostburg State continued to keep the Yellow Jackets at arm’s length in the second half, answering several runs to maintain the lead and secure the eight-point victory.
Trey Simmons delivered a dominant performance for Frostburg State, pouring in a game-high 36 points on 12-of-20 shooting while adding nine free throws. Kyle Whippen provided strong support with 25 points and nine rebounds, while DJ Daniel recorded a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds as the Bobcats shot 52.5 percent from the field.
West Virginia State kept the pressure on throughout the game, cutting into the deficit with a strong offensive effort in the second half. Blake Goodman led the Yellow Jackets with 26 points, while Jaylen Subject added 23 points and seven rebounds. Trey Harris also reached double figures with 13 points.
Frostburg State’s efficiency and transition offense ultimately proved decisive, as the Bobcats generated 25 fast-break points and scored 46 points in the paint to help hold off West Virginia State’s late push.
