In a dramatic Class AA/A Region II Championship game in Short Gap, W.Va., Frankfort High School secured a state tournament berth by defeating Trinity in a marathon match. The teams were tied 3-3 after 80 minutes of regulation and remained deadlocked through two overtime periods, forcing a penalty kick shootout. During the game, Trinity initially led 1-0 before Frankfort scored three goals—two by Noah Weaver and one by Wyatt Kesner—to take a 3-1 halftime lead. Trinity battled back in the second half, with Jakub Galik scoring his second goal and Austin Porta adding another to tie the match. The contest was finally decided in the ninth round of the penalty shootout when a Trinity miss gave Frankfort's goalkeeper, Alyn Weaver, the chance to step up and score the winning kick, ending the shootout 7-6. The victory was a major accomplishment for the Frankfort team, who called themselves "The Leftovers" after losing nine seniors from the previous season.
