The Morgantown Mohigans are heading to the first-ever Class AAAA state soccer tournament after a 3-0 shutout victory against Hedgesville in the North Region co-final. Junior Anthony Vessecchia provided all the offense, scoring a hat trick with three goals off rebounds in the 11th, 25th, and 26th minutes. Head coach Sam Snyder praised his team as "gritty" and "captains of chaos," noting their strategy to "bypass the press long and then win the second ball" worked as planned. The win marked the eighth shutout of the season for Morgantown (13-3-4). They will now join Wheeling Park, Woodrow Wilson, and Hurricane at the state tournament in Beckley on November 6, as they seek their first state title since 2021.
