Hampshire forced the Class AAA Region II Tournament to a winner-take-all game.
Facing elimination, the Trojans avenged an earlier regional loss to Robert C. Byrd with a 7-5 victory Thursday night at Frank Loria Memorial Field.
Hampshire jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning behind RBIs from Zeke McDonald and Brayden Hott. After RCB battled back to tie the game, the Trojans answered with two more runs in the fifth inning to regain control.
Mason Slade shut the door late with three innings of relief, striking out the final batter of the game with the tying run on base.
Hampshire has now won four straight elimination games and will play its fifth game in five days in Friday’s decisive regional championship matchup.
