St. Albans survived a pitcher's duel and advanced to the Class AAA state semifinals with a dramatic 1-0 victory over John Marshall in eight innings.
In a game where runs were nearly impossible to find, the Red Dragons finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth. Mason Bledsoe sparked the rally with a leadoff double before Brayden Smith delivered a walk-off RBI single to score pinch runner Devon Hatfield with the game's only run.
St. Albans received outstanding pitching from Brogan Samms, who struck out nine batters in 6.1 innings, while Braxton Burke recorded the final five outs to preserve the shutout.
John Marshall starter Hayden Hughes was equally impressive, allowing just four hits over a complete-game effort.
The Red Dragons advance to Friday's Class AAA semifinal after improving to 30-6 on the season.
