Two of Class AA’s premier programs collide in Short Gap as Independence visits unbeaten Frankfort for the MetroNews Television Week 10 Game of the Week, sponsored by GoMart.

Frankfort enters at a perfect 8-0 and brings the state’s longest active winning streak into the matchup at 36 consecutive victories. The Falcons are the two-time defending Class AA state champions and are coming off one of their most impressive wins of the season, a 55-27 victory over Class A No. 1 Wahama.

Frankfort has built its championship run around a physical, run-heavy offense that averages 40 points per game. Star running back Braydn Tyler leads a Falcons attack that has continued to overwhelm opponents as Frankfort pursues a third consecutive state championship. A victory over Independence would extend the streak to 37 games and put the Falcons in position to secure the No. 1 seed in the Class AA playoffs.

Independence comes to Short Gap at 5-2 and playing some of its best football of the season. The Patriots’ only loss to a West Virginia opponent came against defending Class AA state runner-up Bluefield, 22-13.

Since that defeat, Independence has responded with three consecutive victories while averaging 47 points per game and allowing just 11 points per contest during the streak. The young Patriots remain firmly in the Class AA championship conversation and now get an opportunity to make one of the biggest statements of the regular season.

The matchup presents a compelling contrast with the postseason approaching: Frankfort’s championship-tested roster and historic winning streak against an Independence team gaining momentum at exactly the right time.

Frankfort is looking to remain perfect, extend its winning streak and strengthen its grip on the top seed in Class AA. Independence is looking to play spoiler, improve its own postseason position and prove it belongs among the classification’s championship favorites.

It’s also the first-ever meeting between Independence and Frankfort, adding another layer to one of Week 10’s most consequential Class AA matchups.

Watch Independence at Frankfort live from Frankfort Stadium in Short Gap on Friday, October 30. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on MetroNews Television, YouTube and Facebook, with Eli Brady and Coach Nick Bartic on the call.
