Weston Smith, a senior and WVU signee, led Hurricane to the inaugural Class AAAA state baseball championship, defeating Morgantown 6-1. Smith delivered a dominant performance, striking out 13 batters and allowing only three hits and one unearned run. Hurricane's offense took the lead in the second inning with an RBI double from Braylan Hutchison and a run-scoring groundout from Brady Rigney. They extended their lead in the fourth with a crucial three-run play due to a Morgantown miscommunication, and added another run to make it 6-1. This marks Hurricane's fifth state title in school history and their first since 2022. Head coach Brian Sutphin praised Smith's maturity and the senior class's leadership.
