Mustain counting on new linemen, talented skill players at James Monroe

Under the leadership of head coach John Mustain, the James Monroe Mavericks football team has been a consistent playoff contender, having reached the postseason in each of Mustain's seven seasons. Coming off a 7-4 record last year after moving up to Class AA, the team's main priorities for the upcoming season are to rebuild its offensive line following the departure of key players like Morehead State signee Brady Baker. The Mavericks will also feature a new starting quarterback for the first time in three years, with senior Ryan Mann taking over, though junior Jayden Miller may also see playing time. Despite these changes, the team has significant strengths, including leading returning rusher Brock Parker, who ran for 548 yards and twelve touchdowns, and a deep wide receiver group led by junior WVU baseball commit Kadyn Hines. As James Monroe seeks a fifth consecutive playoff berth, they will face a tough early-season schedule with matchups against Williamstown, Shady Spring, and Bluefield.
