Morgantown High School secured a dramatic victory over Musselman in the North Region co-final to earn a spot in the Class AAAA state volleyball tournament. Despite appearing dominant after winning the first two sets 25-12, the Mohigans were pushed to their limit. Musselman rallied from a 17-11 deficit in the third set to win 25-20, a comeback that coincided with Morgantown losing star sophomore Leah Greeny to a lower leg injury. The Applemen continued their momentum, winning the fourth set 25-17 to force a decisive fifth set. Morgantown ultimately regrouped and clinched the match 15-13 in the tight final set.
With the win, the Mohigans (34-4-1) advance directly to the state tournament, which begins November 11 in Charleston. Head coach Abigail Wolfe credited her team's depth and "next batter up mentality" for overcoming the adversity. She noted this was the team's first fifth-set match of the year and served as a valuable test before states. Musselman (22-15) will now host University for another chance to advance, while Hedgesville also locked up a state bid from the region.
