Any hope that West Virginia's extra rest would lead to a better performance was "simply wishful thinking," as the Mountaineers were dominated by UCF in a 45-13 road loss. After falling behind 14-0, WVU managed to pull within seven by halftime, but the second half was a complete collapse. The Knights scored 31 unanswered points, thanks to a defense that gave up a season-high 578 total yards and an offense that was held to a season-low 210 yards. Head Coach Rich Rodriguez was highly critical, stating, "We stunk in every phase and every way," calling the performance "poorly coached, poorly executed, poorly played." The team, starting its fourth different quarterback in as many games, failed on both sides of the ball, allowing two fourth-down touchdown passes in the first quarter and suffering a fumble returned for a touchdown in the second half. The loss drops the Mountaineers to 2-5 on the season (0-4 in the Big 12) and marked UCF's first-ever victory over WVU.
