In the opening game of the best-of-three Class AAAA Region IV series, Hurricane defeated Spring Valley 9-3, putting the Redskins one win away from returning to the state tournament for the first time since their 2022 championship. Hurricane's offense was strong, scoring in five of six innings and tallying 10 hits. WVU signee Weston Smith delivered an impressive performance on the mound, allowing only one run in 4.2 innings while striking out five, and also contributed significantly at the plate with three RBIs and a solo home run. Bryson Shirkey went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Griffin Dempsey drove in five runs. Wyatt Gautier closed out the game for Hurricane. Spring Valley will host Game 2, and Hurricane would host Game 3 if necessary.
