In Hico, W.Va., the seventh-seeded Midland Trail Patriots secured their first postseason victory in seven seasons, advancing to the Class AA quarterfinals with a 27-12 win over Petersburg. The Patriots (10-1) utilized a power rushing attack, scoring one touchdown in each quarter. Head coach Jeremy Moore called the victory "very, very special," particularly for the senior class, which has faced significant adversity. Although Petersburg (7-4) scored first, Midland Trail established a 14-6 halftime lead, largely behind the efforts of senior Jayden Roop, who finished with two rushing touchdowns. After Petersburg closed the gap to 20-12, a crucial fourth-quarter interception by Xaylen Johns shifted the momentum. This turnover led to a final 1-yard touchdown run by Gage Johnson, his second score of the game, sealing the 27-12 victory. Midland Trail now awaits the winner of the Bluefield/Oak Glen game.
