On Friday, June 6, 2025, the Hurricane Redskins baseball team defeated Hedgesville 5-3 to advance to the Class AAAA state championship despite being outhit. Hurricane capitalized on timely hitting and Hedgesville's errors, scoring all five of their runs with two outs.
Sophomore Ryan Bowman started on the mound for Hurricane, navigating early trouble with an inning-ending double play in the first. The Redskins then took the lead in the bottom of the first due to an error. They extended their lead in the second and fourth innings, with West Virginia signee Weston Smith delivering a key two-run single in the fourth.
Hedgesville mounted a rally in the sixth inning, scoring two runs on a throwing error and a fielding error, making it a 5-3 game. However, Wyatt Gautier closed out the game for Hurricane with three innings of scoreless relief. Bowman earned the win, and Hedgesville's season concluded with a 22-11 record. Hurricane's head coach Brian Sutphin praised his team's resilience and thanked the community for their support, expressing his hope to win the state title on Saturday.
