HSGN: Quarterfinals (11/21/25)
With only two weekends remaining before the WV High School Football Championships will be held at the University of Charleston Stadium in the Capital City, we are certainly seeing the cream of the crop begin to rise to the top. However, with that said, we did see a couple of surprising scores last weekend during the 1st round of the playoffs. Now looking back to the 1st round of the playoffs in 2024, there were zero upsets! In all four classes, the top eight seeds prevailed, even though we did have one close game, as #6 Hurricane barely slipped by #11 George Washington, with the Redskins winning by one, 14-13. Now, in direct comparison, last weekend in round #1 of the 2025 playoffs, we had a total of five (5) upset wins. Two were in Class AAA, as #9 Chapmanville defeated #8 Greenbrier East 46-37 and #14, surprising #3 Fairmont Senior, 36-28. We had one upset in Class AA last week as #11 Clay County outlasted #6 Roane County 44-12, and in Class A there were two more surprising scores as #11 Wirt County raced past #6 St. Marys 27-14, and #12 East Hardy improved to (6-5) as they defeated #5 Sherman 42-20. As we move into the quarterfinals, we will have 16 exciting games played across the state with seven (7) games kicking off at 7 pm Friday, and nine (9) more games scheduled for this Saturday. We have three (3) games Saturday at 1 pm, four (4) games at 4 pm, and two (2) games planned to kick off at 7 pm Saturday!
