In his first significant action for West Virginia, running back Tye Edwards was the pivotal figure in the Mountaineers' 31-24 come-from-behind overtime victory against rival Pitt. Edwards, who only gained eligibility in August via a lawsuit, stepped up massively in the absence of injured star running back Jahiem White, finishing the game with 141 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. His most crucial contribution came in overtime when he scored the game-winning 1-yard touchdown from a "power package" formation that utilized nine offensive linemen. After the team's rushing attack struggled the previous week, Coach Rich Rodriguez praised Edwards for running with power and purpose, making the most of his opportunity and securing a vital role in the offense moving forward.
