Wheeling Central surges late to take the Class A state title, 12-2 over Wahama

Wheeling Central Catholic is back on top.
The Maroon Knights erupted for 10 runs over the final two innings to defeat Wahama, 12-2, and capture the 2026 WVSSAC Class A State Softball Championship.
Trailing 2-0 early and tied 2-2 entering the sixth inning, Central's offense came alive when Seneca Heller delivered a go-ahead two-run double. The Maroon Knights then broke the game open with a seven-run seventh inning highlighted by a three-run home run from Chloe Groome and a three-run triple from Morgan Miehle.
Tournament Most Outstanding Player Olivia Kiaski went the distance in the circle, allowing just two runs while helping hold Wahama's offense in check after the opening inning.
Heller led Central with three hits, while Mattie Miehle, Morgan Miehle, and Sydney Hupp each added two hits.
The title is Wheeling Central Catholic's first state softball championship since 2018 and the program's 12th crown since 1995.
