In a thrilling comeback, Point Pleasant defeated Winfield 3-2 in extra innings, forcing a decisive Game 3 in their Class AAA Region IV series. Point Pleasant was one strike away from elimination in the top of the seventh inning, trailing 1-0, when Carrsen Lambert and Gavin Barnett hit back-to-back singles to tie the game. Barnett's hit scored Lambert.
In the eighth inning, Jackson Redman's two-run single gave Point Pleasant a 3-1 lead. Winfield scored one run in the bottom of the eighth, but Talan Pearson closed out the game for the win. Point Pleasant's starting pitcher, Anthony Marrero, allowed only one run in five innings. Winfield had initially taken a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Point Pleasant's defense was key in keeping them in the game, with Carson Finnicum throwing out three baserunners attempting to steal.
The series is now tied 1-1, and the winner of Wednesday's decisive game in Mason County will advance to the Class AAA state tournament.
