Jefferson seeks breakthrough season after 4 consecutive quarterfinal appearances
Sports
Following a strong 2024 season where they finished 7-3 and earned the No. 3 seed in the Class AAAA playoffs, the Jefferson Cougars are preparing for a tougher schedule in 2025. The team must replace its starting quarterback and running backs, with a trio of candidates competing for the signal-caller position during the preseason. To support the new backfield, Jefferson will rely on a significant strength: a veteran offensive line that returns four starters, led by senior Kirk Waldeck. Much is also expected from versatile senior Tony Allen Jr., a speedy playmaker who will be used at wide receiver, defensive back, and even running back to challenge defenses. After winning one playoff game in each of the last four seasons, Coach Craig Hunter and his team have set a clear goal: to break through to the state semifinals for the first time in the program's history.
