Herbert Hoover High School's softball team defeated Independence 7-1 to win the Class AAA Region III title. This victory extends the Huskies' state tournament appearance streak to 2017. After losing to Independence in a walk-off the previous night, Herbert Hoover scored in five of their six innings, with key hits from Liz Turner, Emma Hanson, and Sadi Wehrle. Pitcher Hannah Shamblin went the distance, allowing only five hits. Herbert Hoover (25-7) will face Winfield, the two-time defending state champions, in the Class AAA state tournament opener on May 30. Independence finished their season with a 24-11 record.
