Gilmer County is headed to Championship Saturday.
The Titans scored eight unanswered runs after an early deficit and defeated top-seeded Huntington St. Joseph's, 8-4, in the Class A state semifinals at Jack Cook Field.
Freshman standout Roddick Page led the way for Gilmer County, going 3-for-3 with five RBIs while also allowing just one hit over four innings on the mound. The Titans broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fourth inning and added four more in the fifth to seize control.
After Huntington St. Joseph's cut the deficit to four runs late, Kolten Holbert and Remington Huffman combined to secure the final outs and send Gilmer County into the state championship game.
The victory puts the Titans in the Class A state final for the first time since their championship season in 2001.
