In a thrilling Class AA semifinal, Philip Barbour defeated Logan 6-5, marking their first state championship appearance in 50 years. The Colts built an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and extending it to 6-3 by the top of the seventh.
However, Logan mounted a dramatic rally in the bottom of the seventh. After two quick outs, five consecutive Wildcats reached base, cutting the deficit to one run. With the bases loaded and the tying run on third, Philip Barbour pitcher Grant Harris struck out Logan's McCormick Ilderton on a 3-2 count to seal the victory.
Philip Barbour's starting pitcher, Kale Wolfe, also contributed significantly, throwing five quality innings. Logan's coach, Kevin Gertz, acknowledged that his team made too many mistakes and didn't play their best. Philip Barbour will now face top seed Wheeling Central in the Class AA state final.
