Two of West Virginia's premier high school football programs collide as Martinsburg visits Bridgeport for the MetroNews Television Week 2 Game of the Week, sponsored by GoMart.

The state's two winningest programs over the last 15 years meet in the regular season for the first time since 1952, with both entering 2026 looking to get back into championship form.

Bridgeport is led by sixth-year head coach Tyler Phares, who owns a 56-7 record with the Indians. The program's dominant Single Wing offense has been a problem for opponents across the state, but Martinsburg has found the answer in recent postseason meetings. The Bulldogs held Bridgeport without a touchdown in playoff victories of 21-0 in 2021 and 21-3 in 2022.

Martinsburg enters 2026 with championship expectations of its own after a heartbreaking 28-21 loss to Morgantown in the 2025 state championship game. The Bulldogs return several key contributors and are led by West Virginia's all-time winningest head coach, David Walker, who enters the season with a 342-96 career record, including a remarkable 286-55 mark at Martinsburg.

It's a matchup West Virginia high school football fans have wanted to see for years: Martinsburg's championship pedigree against Bridgeport's relentless ground attack, under the lights at Wayne Jamison Field.
