George Washington captured the inaugural Class AAAA state championship with a thrilling 47–46 victory over Morgantown.

The game was decided in the final seconds as sophomore Ben Nicol knocked down a clutch pull-up jumper to give the Patriots the lead, followed by a defensive stop to seal the win.

Nicol and Alex Yoakum combined for 31 points to lead George Washington, while Carson Poffenberger scored 17 points for Morgantown.

After trailing for much of the game, GW surged late with strong fourth-quarter shooting and timely three-pointers to complete the comeback.

The victory marked George Washington’s third state championship under head coach Rick Greene and the first-ever title in the Class AAAA classification.
