Sports
The top-seeded Frankfort Falcons secured their opportunity to defend their Class AA state championship, defeating the No. 5 Doddridge County Bulldogs with a score of 28-7 in a snowy semifinal contest at Frankfort Stadium. The victory extends the Falcons' state-best winning streak to 27 games and sends the 13-0 team back to the final, an achievement Head Coach Kevin Whiteman called "awesome" given the roster featured several first-year starters. The Frankfort defense was stellar, holding the 12-1 Bulldogs to their lowest point total since 2023. Offensively, the Falcons dominated on the ground, outgaining Doddridge 327-73. Frankfort broke a scoreless tie in the second quarter when Blake Jacobs hit Braydn Tyler for a 51-yard touchdown, immediately followed by an 18-yard rushing touchdown by Jacobs. The game's momentum shifted definitively on the first play of the third quarter when Tyler returned a fumble 27 yards for a touchdown, which unfortunately resulted in an injury to Doddridge quarterback Brysen Dixon. Cole Shanholtz added a late 13-yard rushing score to cap the victory. Frankfort advances to the WVSSAC Class AA State Championship game on Saturday, December 6th, at noon, where they will face Bluefield.
