Four WVU pitchers combine to hold down Penn State, 3-1

West Virginia used timely hitting and dominant pitching to take down Penn State, 3-1, at Meritus Park in Hagerstown, Maryland.
The Mountaineers struck early as Paul Schoenfeld launched a solo home run in the first inning to give WVU the initial lead. After Penn State answered with a solo shot from Jack Porter in the second, West Virginia responded with two runs in the third inning—highlighted by a Gavin Kelly sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Sean Smith—to take control for good.
On the mound, WVU’s pitching staff delivered a complete performance. David Hagen earned the win, while Ian Korn, Weston Smith, and Reese Bassinger combined for six scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Bassinger sealed the victory with clutch double plays in the late innings to secure the save.
West Virginia improves to 25-8 on the season and remains unbeaten in midweek non-conference games.
