Class AAA No. 1 Bridgeport delivered a statement win, defeating Class AAAA No. 2 Morgantown 8-1 in the opening game of their home-and-home series.
Sophomore Aidan Dunn went the distance on the mound, allowing just four hits while striking out three. Dunn was especially strong late, retiring nine of the final eleven batters he faced to seal the victory.
Morgantown struck first in the second inning when Kane Williams scored on a wild pitch. But Bridgeport responded in a big way, plating three runs in the third and breaking the game open with a four-run fifth inning.
Owen Sondericker led the charge offensively, driving in four runs with two singles and a sacrifice fly. Luke Rohrig scored three times, Jax McNally added two runs, and Guy Avolio chipped in with two hits and two RBIs. Kasen Baun also delivered a key two-run triple.
Bridgeport has now won four straight games and 11 of their last 12, improving to 16-3 on the season. Morgantown falls to 15-3, with the rematch set for May 6 at Dale Miller Field.
